Nordica, which forms part of the Nordic Aviation Group, will be operating its first regular flights today, having been internationally certified as an airline and issued with an International Air Transport Association (IATA) code. This is also the first time that passengers have purchased tickets from Nordica’s own sales platform.

Estonian national airline Nordica carried some 143,000 passengers in the second quarter this year. Due to the recent reorganisation of its network of routes from Tallinn, with the airline reducing the volume of flights by one-third, the number of passengers has also reduced by about 30 percent compared to the same period last year. A total of some 270,000 passengers have been served in the first six months of this year, as expected by the airline.

According to the annual report, the sales turnover of Nordic Aviation Group (Nordica) in 2018 increased to 107.7 million euros, which is 30% more than the previous year.

Nordica’s and its subsidiary Regional Jet’s joint bid wins the four-year tender contract for operation of a Swedish domestic flight route. The contract stipulates that Nordica and its subsidiary shall continue operating the flight route between Stockholm and the northern Swedish towns of Arvidsjaur and Gällivare until the autumn of 2023.

Airlines Nordica and LOT have signed a renewed cooperation agreement under which LOT will take over the management of ticket sales and customer service and Nordica will focus solely operating flights.

The consolidated Nordic Aviation Group, the Estonian flag carrier, served over 2.2 million passengers in 2018. The newly released figure is 2.5 times greater than that of the most successful years of the previous state-owned flag carrier. Nordica’s subsidiary Regional Jet is forecasting continued growth this year. SAS has also voiced satisfaction with its Estonian partner.

Estonia’s national airline Nordica transported more than 102,000 passengers on its Tallinn routes in Q1 2019.

Kristi Ojakäär to take up post as Head of Finance at Nordica on 1 February. Kristi Ojakäär, who has been selected as the new head of Nordica’s Finance Department, previously worked as the Finance Manager at Olympic Entertainment Group AS and as the Director of Finance for the Baltic States with Microsoft Estonia. She will be joining Nordica’s management board at the same time as assuming the duties of Head of Finance at the airline. An open competition for the post was held late last year.

In January, Nordica will be ceasing to service routes that the current competition conditions render economically unviable, freeing up aircraft and crew that it will instead use for profitable subcontracting services.
